Grid Solution Reduces Costs for Global Human Resources Company

NEW YORK, NY · March 3, 2004 · DataSynapse, Inc., the fastest-growing provider of grid computing software for commercial applications has been honored with a 2004 IBM PartnerWorld® Beacon Award in the e-business on demand Innovative Solution category for its ability to address the growing business need for real-time processing solutions that significantly reduce costs.

The IBM PartnerWorld Beacon Awards recognize IBM Business Partners that have excelled in providing quality e-business solutions and services to customers based on IBM technologies. Twenty-eight winners were announced at an IBM Beacon Awards ceremony March 1 at PartnerWorld 2004 in Las Vegas.

The e-business on demand Innovative Solution award recognizes the Business Partner solution that leveraged open-standards to achieve end-to-end business process integration. The winning solution provides flexibility in how customers acquire and manage technology and allows customers to respond rapidly to changing market conditions.

Working with the IBM Design Center, DataSynapse developed a grid processing system to handle pension benefit requests for Hewitt Associates, a global human resources outsourcing and consulting firm. The solution consists of 10 IBM eServer™ xSeries™ and zSeries™ blade servers running the GridServer™ platform, a DataSynapse application that distributes processing tasks across the grid and Java™-based middleware that connects the grid to calculation software on the IBM mainframe.

The grid solution has eliminated wasted processing capacity, reduced pension benefit calculation costs by 90 percent and performs the most complicated calculations 10 to 15 seconds faster than the previous solution. Rather than waiting for mainframe batches to run, Hewitt's customers can now run reports themselves and give employees self-service options for accessing information in Hewitt's system over the Web.
