Analyst ReportsDeliver Cloud Benefits Inside Your Walls ![]() While the excitement about cloud computing centers on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and other public infrastructure-as-a-service products, many enterprise infrastructure and operations professionals are taking this concept in-house and building their own internal clouds. These pools of virtual machines can be built upon either virtual server or high-performance computing (HPC) grid foundations and can be operated according to the specific security and process requirements of the business. But to deliver the fundamentally better economic value of cloud architectures within your walls, these clouds require a dynamic platform (or automated workload management) and developer self-service interfaces. There’s a growing list of vendors eager to help you deploy an internal cloud, but be sure you understand that these solutions are more building blocks than complete solutions and must be customized to your specific needs. Download Analyst Report: DataSynapse supports grid users in the cloud ![]() DataSynapse's Federator 1.5 provides policy-based redistribution of resources between GridServer resource pools and centralized resource management. Its users can now run engines free of charge in EC2 (aside from Amazon's fees) for the rest of the year. Download DataSynapse application virtualization spreads grid to EC2 ![]() Application software management provider DataSynapse has announced an expansion of one of its flagship products onto Amazon's EC2 infrastructure. The company specializes in dynamic application management, meaning it allows enterprise users to manage datacenter application infrastructure, even when virtualized or spread across multiple facilities. With the new release, customers will be able to run DataSynapse engines in the EC2 cloud. In addition the company is releasing a new version of its Federator software aimed at making integration with external clouds seamless to users. The company has two beta customers right now, but is looking for more Federator 1.5 beta users that will be able to extend their environments onto EC2 for free for the remainder of the year. Download DataSynapse fattens up customer base and product line ![]() Grid-computing veteran DataSynapse claims it broadened its customer base in 2008 to around 100 global customers running its software over nearly one million CPUs. Founded as a grid-computing company in 2000, the company has since expanded its portfolio to include application- and grid-provisioning and policy-management products FabricServer and, most recently, Federator. In 2009, it plans to announce new products and services to push its grid-management software into the cloud. The company reports 30% year-over-year growth over the last three years. DataSynapse - We estimate that this application-fabric player DataSynapse is a $40m+-per-year business. This year saw the first real beachheads outside of the financial industry. Download With FabricServer finally humming, DataSynapse raises strategic ambitions with DASM ![]() Doubling down on this momentum, the company has sealed important integrations with VMware and Cisco, and will through a series of product releases provide a plug-in model to support the management of additional hypervisors and the federation of enterprise-wide FabricServer and GridServer resources, with cloud and other extensions to follow. Download Application Virtualization and Utopia: Proving the Value of Virtualizing Applications ![]() Virtualization Confusion. Virtualization has become a major catch phrase being bandied about in the business and IT-oriented media today. Due to an amazingly successful marketing campaign by a major supplier of one type of virtualization technology, the media, consultants and some analysts mistakenly equate virtualization with virtual machine software. What is it really? Download Credit Crunch: Casualties and Opportunities ![]() Recent 451 reports have highlighted the need for low-latency infrastructures supported by resilience and scalability to support computer-driven trading. As the number of active multilateral trading facilities grows, the search for (and delivery of) liquidity is essential. But the search for liquidity has now been superseded by the search for solvency — and that search is proving more difficult. Download Technology Audit: DataSynapse GridServer and FabricServer ![]() DataSynapse’s virtualization solutions decouple applications from their underlying infrastructure and virtualize the workload across shared compute resources. GridServer creates virtualized application services on a shared infrastructure, optimising a wide range of process and service intensive workloads. FabricServer is a virtualization and provisioning platform that creates an adaptive utility computing infrastructure for applications. With the ability to scale up or down based on demand enterprises can optimise the utilization of internal resources, which reduces cost and complexity. The technology supports initiatives such as Data Center automation, services-based approaches, utility computing, and Service Level Agreement (SLA) Management. The first step for those organizations contemplating application virtualization is to begin with the company’s patent-pending services methodology, which provides value-based analysis and Return On Investment (ROI) information for DataSynapse products. Download DataSynapse Builds in Flexibility at the Application Layer ![]() Organizational and operational flexibility is essential for business survival in competitive times. Flexibility can be built in at many levels, but depends most upon what is driving the change to which your organization must respond. Today's business drives application use, but it is how these applications are deployed and managed that can let a business hum – or consign it to a doleful plight of constraint and frustration. DataSynapse offers application virtualization software to address many of the problems that occur within the application tier. Download Your Strategic SOA Platform Vision ![]() Your service-oriented architecture (SOA) platform - the software infrastructure and tools you use to build, configure, deploy, monitor, and manage services - heavily influences your ability to attain the strategic business flexibility and benefits that service orientation promises. Rather than buying a single vendor product, you will build your strategic SOA platform from multiple products, each of which provides one or more functions such as security, transactions, version resolution, event management, reliable delivery, service repository, business process flow control, metadata management, business reporting, dynamic policy, service management, and more. But you can't build it all at once, nor should you try to. Instead, use an SOA platform vision - crafted in line with SOA's value for enabling flexible business change, rich business connections, and strong business control - to guide a stepwise evolution that starts with your current application platform and develops in line with your path(s) to SOA. Download SOA Will Change How IT Works ![]() The flexibility provided by service-oriented architecture (SOA) enables the continuous optimization of business processes. But the traditional IT organization, which is oriented toward discrete business units and supported by vertically integrated applications, constrains this optimization rather than helps. To be effective, the IT organization must develop an orientation around end-to-end business processes. A number of existing IT roles need to be redefined to ensure that this process orientation is reflected in IT's strategies and plans. Furthermore, the IT organizational structure itself should change to make these redefined roles effective and deliver service-oriented IT (SO-IT). Download The Future of Data Center Automation ![]() Data center automation (DCA) products have evolved from basic provisioning and software distribution tools into powerful platforms that govern many aspects of data center operations. While many products share a common foundation in configuration management, DCA products have broadened their reach into asset management, compliance auditing, and policy-based automation. As a result, firms are confronted with a wide array of DCA products with overlapping capabilities - particularly in configuration management. Forrester expects that vendors of large system management suites will integrate the whole range of DCA capabilities over the next two years - but at the cost of proprietary integration and point-product vendors that must compete with these large DCA suites. Download Grid Computing in Telecommunications ![]() Telecommunications companies face some immense challenges. Competition continues to be intense as a raft of new competitors and new technologies threaten their markets. Technology changes threaten to leave many carriers with legacy networks that cannot compete with the speed, functionality and flexibility of the networks of new entrants. Download DataSynapse GridServer Accelerates the Migration to SOA ![]() Building on several years of experience enabling legacy applications to execute in heterogeneous resource-centric grid computing environments, DataSynapse has recently extended its GridServer software to support a wider range of application types. Download Power Unbound: The Emerging Importance of Grid Computing ![]() In the next half dozen years, we will likely observe another set of profound changes in enterprise computing that addresses these challenges - one in which IT organizations use sophisticated software tools to break the tight linkage between applications and servers and deploy applications across ever more commoditized, standardized and cheaper hardware. Grid computing is one of the more developed of these components, and it has the potential to be one of the most important.
